the vacated post of ac for lothian and borders has been filled bytwo new joint ac’s, nanette marshall and anne roberts. the ac for central scotland post, which had been left vacant by heather gow’s retirement last year, has also been filled earlier this year by zoe sanders. i would like to wish our new ac’s all the best and i am sure the members in their areas will give them every support. clive’s retirement also meant that he and his wife annie were standing down from running the bds scottish showat border union show, kelso which they have done for many years. i am sure the scottish members would join me in thanking annie and clive for all their years of hard work running the show. in 2018 the show will be run by a new team headed up by claire armet, and i am sure we all wish them well and hope that the scottish members support the show in 2018. there are also two new members on to the bds scotland committee this year, ruth martin and james pearson. both well known drivers, we welcome them on to the committee and i am sure they will make a valuable contribution. there have been many well supported shows and drives up and down the country this year as always and a new addition this year was a well supported fun day at heriot in the scottish borders which was organised by claire armet and was very well received. another great success this year was a venue move for the bds central area show which moved to a large outdoor school at kilgraston school, bridge of earn. this show was a great success with well filled classes and entries up hugely on previous years which was good to see. scottish drivers also flew the flag at the bds championships at driving addington with three drivers and four turnouts making the journeysouth. they did scotland proud with three of the turnouts getting a first place and the fourth getting a second place and one making it through to the evening championship so well done all ! a long trip but very worthwhile. we also had a scottish representative at hoys this year when gillian mcninch again qualified her coloured riding pony, the longhouse glam rock. this was gillian and bentley’s second visit to hoys having previously qualified in 2015, so well done to the mcninch family. it was also good to see some new turnouts this year. some members, inspired by taking part in the attelage de tradition at glamis castle have recently purchased traditional vehicles and are now taking part in private driving classes instead of the exercise vehicle classes that they used to take part in, so that was encouraging. there have also been a couple of new competitors out this year in exercise classes who have made a great start to driving classes. one with a lovely young shetland pony who is recently been broken to drive and one with a lovely welsh section b mare who was previously a brood mare that had done a lot of in-hand showing who the owner was looking for a new career for so has started driving her. the have certainly both done a great job and i look forward to seeing them out again next year. so i would just like to finish by wishing everyone all the best for 2018 and safe, enjoyable driving and most importantly have fun !
